In Nottingham we have been focussing so far on input from practisioners from outside of the city, providing valuable insights on topics such as Entrepreneurship & Mission, Celtic Christianity, and how to engage with New Age culture.

'Celtic Christianity and the move of God today'

Ray Simpson lives on the Holy Island of Lindisfarne in Northumbria. He is Guardian of the International Community of Aidan & Hilda which aims to cradle a spirituality which draws inspiration from the Celtic Saints.

Historic Holy Island christians such as the Irish Aidan and the Saxon Cuthbert brought to England and Scotland a gentle, radiant faith and a deep love for God, the people and creation. They led a life of constant prayer, characterised by works of mercy and miracle.

Today, at a turning point in world culture, the spirituality of these Celtic saints offers a non-hierarchical and unthreatening way of being a people-friendly church that connects with the earth and its peoples, that has roots and rhythm, and that is bathed in the supernatural Presence of the God who is Three Persons.

Christians on the island from different churches and networks share a vision of Holy Island being a place of hospitality, prayer and pilgrimage which enables people to make these connections for themselves without taking short cuts.

He is also the author of a number of books including:
'Exploring Celtic Christianity', 'Soul Friendship: Celtic Insights Into Spiritual Mentoring', 'A Pilgrim Way: new celtic monasticism for everyday people', and 'Church of the Isles: the emerging church in Britain and Ireland - a prophetic strategy for renewal'

Bill Bolton

Bill has been closely involved in what is know as the “Cambridge Phenomenon’; he set up the St. John's Innovation Centre which now has an international reputation for generating new businesses and nurturing entrepreneurial talent; it helped to launch 3 businesses a week for 11 years. He has written three books, and has developed an entrepreneur evaluation tool that identifies people’s entrepreneur potential and also that of entrepreneur enablers. While his background is in business, he sees entrepreneurs as working with three kinds of capital – economic, social, and spiritual. He has also recently written a grove booklet on entrepreneurs and the church.

Bill is available from 2-6pm on March 19th for one-on-one or small group discussions

At 7:30pm he will be talking about ‘The Entrepreneur and the Church’, with time for discussion

Tom Sine - The New Conspirators

We are excited to announce that Tom Sine will be coming to Manchester this Autumn. He’ll be spending 24hrs with us where we’ll be exploring his recently published book ‘The New Conspirators’, discovering more about him and learning about the hopeful mustard seeds that are being sown here in Manchester.

This non residential conference will take place at the Nazarene college in Didsbury, Manchester from 30th Sept until 1st October. There will be three sessions during our time together plus plenty of time for networking and discovering more about what God is doing in Manchester.

30th September, 15:00 - 17:00.
Session 1: Travelling in Turbulent Times with the New Conspirators.

How do we understand church and mission in our current times? What have we got wrong and what have we got right? Tom will be exploring these questions with us and then offering four snapsnots of how the New Conspirators are engaging with contemporary society.

This will be followed by an interview with Tom. Offering us the opportunity to discover more of Tom’s personal faith story.

30th September, 19:00 - 21:00:
Session 2: Taking Turbulent Times Seriously.

If economic globalization is a major driving force what are the challenges faced in our world and church today? What is our Christian responsibility to one another, the planet and the most vulnerable? Tom will offer some reflections on these questions and more.

This will be followed by a question and answer sessions with Tom.

1st October, 10:00 - 12:30:
Session 3: The imagination of the Future.

A final session to encourage us to join in with the new conspirators in imagining and creating new approaches to whole life faith, community and mission.

A free evening event which takes place in London, Manchester, Oxford, Sheffield, Nottingham and Birmingham, with drinks and refreshments. See the individual pages for details.

blah... learning days
Take place on Saturdays and aim to take the conversation deeper and involve more speakers/hosts and more interaction. These are currently happening in Westminster, London in partnership with moot. Some recent days have explored include 'new monasticism' and 'emerging leadership'. See the learning days page for more details.

Brian Walsh and Sylvia Keesmaat are doing 3 dates on a smal blah tour in June 2008 on Subverting the Empire. See the tour page for more info.

This is the third blah tour. The first was in 2005 with Michael Frost and Alan Hirsch, which explored their book The Shaping of Things to Come. And the second in 2006 with Ryan Bolger and Karen Ward which explored Ryan's book Emerging Churches.

the last few years have seen the emergence of creative new forms of mission, spirituality, worship, faith, community and church with a buzz around emerging church, mission shaped church and fresh expressions. this movement is young, fragile and exciting. these new forms relate to the wider cultural shifts and how the christian faith can be re-imagined in this new environment.

blah... creates spaces for meeting other people, asking questions, sharing stories, hearing ideas and having conversation about what is happening. blah... is a relaxed informal environment in which to explore and learn.

anyone is welcome at blah... the common thread is exploring mission in today's culture(s)

blah... happens in a number of (growing) locations round the country. to find out what's happening near you click on your nearest location on the top left hand side of this page.

we also run a series of learning days in london which give a chance to explore something in more depth.

blah... will also become a hub for resources as we record sessions as mp3s and explore publishing some of the material that has been presented (watch this space) - see resources
